It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the news of Ilona Thomson’s recent passing.

Ilona was more than a dedicated District Registrar and our representative with BCCSL and BCSPL. She was a steady and committed presence who gave her time, energy, and spirit without hesitation.

Ilona was the registrar in Burnaby starting in 1990, and prior to that she was the Cliff Avenue United Football Club Registrar and a Director with Cliff Avenue. She was also involved with organizing and planning several Coastal and Provincial Cup Finals in Burnaby.

For 25 years Ilona dedicated her time to soccer and her commitment was further recognized in 2024, receiving BC Soccer’s Administrator of the Year Award. Ilona worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that both clubs and districts programs ran smoothly. That players were registered and our teams and clubs were supported.

Ilona was an important part of our soccer community and we lost not only a trusted colleague, but a dear friend in our sporting community.

To Ilona’s family, we extend our deepest condolences. We share in your loss and honor the extraordinary person she was.

You will be missed Ilona, and remembered always with love and gratitude.
